Intraocular trauma varies from minor injuries to surface lacerations to complete disorganization of the globe. With penetrating injury, the initial goal is to stabilize the eye and restore surface anatomy. After the eye has stabilized, second stage surgery is done to restore internal anatomy as much as possible. This can include retinal detachment repair, choroidal hemorrhage management, iris reconstruction, lens removal or replacement, IOL repositioning, and many other surgical goals.
